We are not taught in school about settings and setting stones, so I started to practice by myself with a book… so hard! So different from what I’m used to..so precise! But still I have been keeping practicing, and will keep on doing so.. I have some really pretty cubic zirconias so.. must set them! This is the first one that actually kept its  form.. nice! I wear this myself..it’s not pretty but its a small achievement..

Tämän kivi on 6,5 millinen. Aikamoinen jötkäle siis, ei ihmekään että pysyi kasassa Seuraava vaaleanpunainen onkin  pienempi, muistaakseni 6,25mm.

The stone is 6,5 mm. Pretty big, so it was relatively easy to make… the pink one is a bit smaller, 6,25 if I remember correctly 

Sitten tulikin oikea möhkäle kun päätin koittaa istuttaa neliö-kiveä..  Omalla tavallaan ihan nätti mutta jos tietää millainen sen pitäisi olla, millaisen se kultaseppä tekisi, niin sitten kyllä huomaisi että huh huh minna, yritäpäs uudestaan…

And then I decided to try to set this princess cut stone.. It’s pretty in it’s own way, but boy it would make goldsmiths who know how to make it perfect cry…

Hi there! Been working hard on my new studio and it is so nice!

Kyseessä on iso huone joka on ajettu kahteen osaan, suunnittelu ja työskenty-osioon

So it is basically a big room divided into two smaller rooms, one for designing, and one for working  

Nyt mennään työskentely-puolelle…. kuvat ovat muuten huonoja kun otettu kännykällä, mutta niistä saa ajatuksen!

Now off to the working portion of the room..pictures are bad, i took them with my cell right after we got this together! 

Paljon on tullut varusteltua tätä kyllä kuvien oton jälkeen hienot tilat ja paljon on tullut siellä oleiltua…kivaa!

Very nice workspace, and have been hanging there for a LOT! So nice! 

Ja tottakai kissat pyörii mukana juotoshommissa..

And of course cats are also into soldering…

I advice others to take action too! The word won’t get better unless we make it! If you have a chance to get a sponsor child, it is an awesome way to give, or get to a local charity and ask what you can do for them  

We are collecting money at school to make a trip to Schmuck 2012 in Germany. It’s exciting. We already got some money from working hard for it. We have saved and taught  workshops and made custom orders. We are going to make happen an event where is lectures of jewelry art in Lappeenranta during November. I’m not quite sure what it consists of, but there are people who know better than I do .

Aiomme osallistua mahd. moniin joulumarkkinoihin, joten päätettiin että jokainen reissuun lähtevä oppilas tekee sarjan koruja joita sitten myydään näillä markkinoilla. Ideaa piti kypsytellä kauan..en meinannut keksiä mitään suhteellisen halpaa ja helppoa jotta mahdollinen voittomarginaali olisi mahdollisimman suuri. Mutta viime viikolla keksin mitä teen.

As part of our fund-raising plan we are taking part of as many as possible Christmas fairs. Every student that takes part of the trip has to come up with a line of jewelry that we will try to sell at the fairs. I didn’t have any idea whatsoever what to do, until it hit me last week!

Elektroformaan lehtiä ja yhdistän niitä sitten kivisiivujen kanssa näyttäviksi kaulakoruiksi. Elektroformaus vie kauan aikaa, mutta sitä odotellessa voi aivan hyvin tehdä muita töitä, joten konsepti toimii.  Teen ehkä näiden kivellisten lisäksi myös pelkkiä lehtiriipuksia. Olen tyytyväinen visiooni, toivottavasti matkakassa näistä karttuu edes jonkin verran!

I will electroplate leaves and combine them with stone slices to make a statement pieces. Electroplating takes quite a while  but I can easily do other stuff while waiting for the leaves to plate, so it doesn’t take too much of my time. I will probably do necklaces with only the leaves too. I am quite happy about my vision and I wish it will help us grow our funds for the trip

Elektroformattu lehti jonka poimin pihaltani

Electroformed leaf I picked outside from my yard !

This is the brooch from my series ornament, the one I mentioned earlier on Ornament 1-post.  

Kelta-valkoista marmorikalkkikiveä, patinoitua kuparia, sitruunahappoa, terästä, hopeaa.

Yellow-white marble-limestone, oxidized copper, lemon acid, steel, silver. 

Tälläkin työllä on siis filigraani takamus (kuparia), jossa teräksestä tehty kaksoisneula-mekanismi.

This work also has a filigree background (copper) and a steel double-needle.

I added some supplies to my shop, there I can sell some supplies and beads that I have kept in my boxes way too long.  Now there is pandora styled european bead charms, but I think tomorrow I will add more supplies. Go check it out, if not otherwise then just for the sake that its good that my shop gets views!

The picture in my header must be a mystery to all. I wanna take the time out to open it up a bit . I made to our school critique in 2010 titled “Ornament” a serie of four stone jewelry pieces. To me ornament was to form ornaments myself  from the patterns on the stone that  it already has in it. 

Tässä kuvassa on tuo mystinen koru vielä riipus asteella. Myöhemmin siihen liittyi ruskea makeanvedenhelmistä punottu ketju. Elikkä kivi on  marmorikalkkikiveä (ylläri!) ja muoto tulee siitä että halkaisin kiven strategisesti osiin jotta voin tehdä siitä melko symmetrisen palan liittämällä kaksi palaa yhteen liimalla, tätä saumaa ei kyllä näy koska olen LOISTAVA liimaaja, ja liima ei ole synti !

In this picture the mystic creature is still on a pendant state, later on  it became attached to a brown knotted freshwater pearl chain. The stone is marble-limestone (surprise!) and the shape of the piece comes from that I cut the stone strategically  so i can slice it up  and make a kind of symmetrical piece by glueing the slices together. You cant of course see the glue seam that well cos I’m really good at what I do…and glue is not a sin!

Etuosa on siis kiveä, ja mikä nyt näkyy kuvassa on takapuoli. Tosin se on vain miun mielipide koska tein tätä sarjaa hieman taka-osa painotteisesti, mutta olen sitä mieltä että kumpikin puoli on hyvin käyttökelpoinen, ja kantaja saa käyttää korua juuri niinpäin kuin haluaa.  Tämä takapuoli on siis hopeakehikkö, jossa filigraanikoristeet. Ja kyllä, olen tehnyt kaikki nuo osat itse alusta lähtien, ja se oli hyvin tuskaista ja vaikeaa…. hyvin ohut hopeanauha kun ei tykkää liiasta lämmöstä vaan sulaa ennenkuin juotepasta! Nämä oli tosin ensimmäisiä filigraanejani, kyllä senkin varmasti oppisi hallitsemaan ajan kanssa.

So the front part is only stone, and what you see in the header is backside. Although, thats only my opinion on which side you use as the front, I was kind of backside oriented in these pieces. Both of the sides can be very well used as the front, it totally depends on the person wearing the necklace Backside has a silver frame with filigree. And yes, I did all these parts myself from start, and it was painful and hard! Very thin silver string and heat don’t go well together in my hands.. I tend to melt the silver before soldering paste! These were although my first filigree ever, and I’m sure it’s another thing you will learn with practice.
